3D Space Scanning

Bartlett Summer Show 2010 3D Scan from ScanLAB on Vimeo.

Above is a fly-through of a 3D Laser Scan of an exhibition at the Bartlett School of Architecture Gallery. They used a Faro Photon 120 laser scanner (Which runs at about $40k). Software that enables navigation is Pointools, a generic point cloud model software that allows for some of the largest point cloud models – multi-billion point datasets. Visualizing this amount of points is not really doable in Processing or C++ without custom hardware acceleration setups. These drawings represent the closest record to an as built drawing set for the entire exhibition and an ‘as was’ representation of the Bartlett’s year.
